Dollar Beach, Timor-Leste
If you are lucky, and willing to swim/snorkel out to the “drop off” you can see an amazing array of fish swimming along the coast line from Dollar Beach in Timor-Leste.
Including the occasional Sea Turtle.

Knife Ridge at Cristo Rei
I have previously mentioned to you a much longer trail on Cristo Rei – the Amazing Grace Run (AKA Cristo Rei Goat Trail).
This is far and away one of the most scenic hikes you’s experience anywhere in the world. If you have a GPS,
Click Here, download the data, and have a great time hiking in East Timor.
The trail has been tested by the Dili Hash House Harriers, and if those folks can do it, so can you.
A word of caution, there are several places along the trail that are scary. Just keep a cool head, and take your time.
Also take water and lots of pictures. The hike is only about 3.5 miles and will take you about 2 hours. of run/walking.

Finally, a way to get you the GPS and m
ap data to follow some of the great hiking trails in Timor. From the link above, you’ll be able to download the Amazing Grace trail to your GPS and have a great walk without fear of getting lost. The Amazing Grace Walking Trail is an excellent walk/scramble in the breathtaking hills of Cristo Rei in East Timor. The walk can be challenging if steep climbs make someone nervous, but is otherwise safe and will be something to write home about. You’ll need to bring water and perhaps a walking stick to push the occasional spiderweb out of the way. You can park at Cristo Rei to begin your walk and it will take about 1.5 hours.

I pulled together a short video of some of the Sea Stars (
Star Fish) you’ll find in East Timor.
The reefs here are fantastic, and the sea stars are everywhere. The
feather stars and basket stars are among my favorites.

Each dive site in East Timor has some very different sea life. You might not expect it, but even sites that are quite close to each other will have some sea life that isn’t at a site 300 meters away.
Cristo Rei, for example, has basket stars. Continue reading

The Wall at K41. December 2012. Timor-Leste (East Timor). Brian Pinkowski
K41 was fantastic today. There were lots and lots of baby fish in the “nursery” of the main wall. Continue reading

While diving Cristo Rei today with Andre, we found a
giant clam. There are often “giant” clams, but this was the largest I had seen at one of the local Dili dive sites. Continue reading
